The Unsent Letter

Image
Writing is therapeutic.  If you are feeling angry or upset with someone but can't talk to them about it, an 'unsent letter can help.  It is also called a no-send letter or a Lincoln letter. Why a Lincoln letter, you may ask? Well, it's because It's because when Abraham Lincoln was angry with a colleague, he would write a letter to them venting his rage but, instead of sending it to them, he would put it aside and look at it a day or two later when his mind had cleared.  Picture from  https://drsamanthaboardman.substack.com/p/the-benefit-of-keeping-your-feelings That's what an unsent letter is. You write down what happened, how it has affected you and everything you would want to say to the person, but don't send it. After it is written, you can either store it somewhere safe if you want to look at it later or you can throw it away. You can choose what you want to do with it. There is no right or wrong way to write it.Just express yourself and let out your frustr...

Reader's Digest 100 Word Story Competition

Image
Hello! In January this year, I entered the Reader's Digest magazine's 100 word story competition. Contestants had to write a short story in exactly 100 words and the winner, selected by a panel of judges, would win $1000. I did not win but I am glad I gave it a go. Writing 100 words is easy but being creative in 100 words is challenging. I think so anyway. I love taking on new challenges like this and creating good content for people to read and I might enter this competition again or try out a different one. I mean, you either win or you don't but it's fun and worth a try. I wrote three different stories and chose one to enter into the competition. I will share those stories below. 1. Bringing Baby Home (I entered this story) We walked into our home with our newborn baby cradled in my arms and were greeted by our parents and siblings saying “Welcome home!” After a few minutes of warm hugs, discussion and fawning, I slowly made my way into the nurse...

I Call Sydney Home

Image
After a few days of rain, I took advantage of a little bit of sunshine that appeared one day and headed into the city for photography session. I packed up my DSLR camera and caught the train to Circular Quay where I took photos of the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and surrounding buildings. Those who know me well know that I really enjoy photography and will happily snap away for hours. I sat on a bench watching other people walking around taking photos and the boats going by and thought about how much I love this city. I was born and brought up here and it is one of the most beautiful places ever, There is so much to see and do here - a diverse range of restaurants to dine at, tourist attractions, cinemas, theatres, beautiful gardens, parks and buildings. I love walking around the city pretending to be a tourist taking photos in front of the iconic landmarks and looking in all the shops. Whenever any of my friends and family from other states and counties come here, I am more than ha...

Dolly Magazine

Image
Hello beautiful people! This post is about one of my favorite magazines, Dolly. Dolly is a bi-monthly magazine for girls aged 14-17 which was launched in 1970. Each issue is filled with celebrity news and interviews, fashion, health and beauty tips. The magazine was recently re-launched with all the same features but also a new and, in my opinion, more mature look. It now includes longer articles on celebrities, lifestyle and relationships. It covers a variety of issues affecting young girls such as puberty, education and relationships includes topics that these girls many not be aware of. For example, the current issue features an article on nude selfies and how to protect ourselves on page 30[ which, to be honest, is a topic I didn't know about. After reading the article, I did some research to find out more about it and was shocked to see just how big of an issue it is and how often it happens. I like that it includes real-life stories which tell us about ...
