Sixteen Sticks

Image
One day while scrolling through Twitter, I saw a few people tweeting about a song called "Sixteen Sticks" by Greg Rider. I had never heard of him before and was curious so after listening to the song on YouTube, I searched him up on the internet. In this post, I am sharing a few facts about him and the beautiful song.   Greg Rider is from Toronto, Canada. Greg started pursuing music in his 20's. He started by busking on street corners and performing in bars. While working as a bartender in the Cayman Islands, he spent his time off writing and performing at open mic opportunities.  He moved to Nashville and has since worked hard on music and grown as an artist and songwriter. He has performed on WSM, a famous country music radio station, and at Whiskey Jam, a renowned venue in Nashville.  Greg is influenced by Sam Hunt, Jordan Davis and Tim McGraw.  Last year, he joined a record label called Father & Son Records. On April 6th, 2018, a bus carrying the Humboldt Bro...

Book Review: Herbie's Colorful World

Image
Two years after the release of Donte Jackson's first children's book, Herbie Vore the Dinosaur,  he is back with the second book of the series, Herbie's Colorful World.  Children everywhere fell in love with Herbie. the adorable little dinosaur and I am sure they are all happy to see him again!  I am going to share my thoughts on the book in this post.  Just as the title suggests, Herbie learns all about colors. The cover is beautiful and I love that the world colorful is written in different colors and the letter O in World is replaced with a globe. It adds to the attractiveness. There is a dedication to young artists around the world on the first page which is such a sweet touch.  The story opens with Herbie waking up and excitedly telling readers that he dreamed about colors. It's good that all the pictures match the words. I think that helps children imagine the story in their minds and having only one line on each page makes it easy for those learning to rea...

Hello! Now is the time to read all those books you have sitting on the bookshelf. Reading is a great way to forget about the pandemic for a while, take a break from the news and your busy lives and learn something new. Here, I am sharing a few books I have enjoyed reading. Seriously...Im Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres - Ellen gives advice on many things including how to be positive, more social and be kind to other people in her funny way. Some people may find that it drags on but I love its light-hearted nature and humor. It is also a story of young love. Bachelor Nation by Amy Kaufman - Readers learn what happens behind-the-scenes of The Bachelor, a very popular reality dating show. I Love Me

Image
Last week, Demi Lovato released a new single called I Love Me  and in this post, I am going to share my thoughts on the song and music video, which came out on the same day. Demi is one of my favourite artists. She is a very talented singer and actress and I feel that she is a great role model for young girls. She's been through a lot in her life - She started her entertainment career in 2002 and has been acting, singing and appearing on TV ever since, was bullied at school due to her acting, has suffered from depression, an eating disorder and self-harm and took drugs. With all her personal struggles, she has managed to have a successful career. I love that she is so open and honest about what she has been through. Not many people like to discuss those issues, especially in the media, but she does and I'm sure it helps a lot of people who may be in the same situation. 'I Love Me' is a self-love anthem which talks about struggles with self-image. Lyrics such as...

Music Video Review - Cheesy Love Song

Image
Hello! This post is a review of Sydney band The Lazy Eyes' music video for their debut single ' Cheesy Love Song '. If you don't know who The Lazy Eyes are, search them up on social media! I have seen these four talented guys perform a few times and have been waiting for them to actually release some music and Cheesy Love Song is awesome! Photo from @thelazyeyesband on Instagram The video opens with Harvey playing the piano and singing. He immediately had me hooked with his amazing voice. He sounds angelic to me. The camera zooms out to show the other members, Noah on the drums and Blake on the.... bass? (forgive me, I'm not sure what you call that instrument. It looks like a guitar to me!) For a moment I thought, wait a minute, someone's missing and then, as Noah gives that drum one big beating, Itay appears from the left side with his instrument. I like that we could just hear the instrumentals for a few seconds, they blend together very well. At ...

Insomnia by TJ Jackson

Image
TJ Jackson has released a single called Insomnia,  which is amazing! I'm going to share my thoughts on he song and video TJ Jackson's first solo release! First, for those who don't know who TJ is, he is a member of the famous musical family the Jacksons. He is the son of Tito of the legendary Jackson Five and is a member of R&B/pop music group 3T with his brothers Taj and Taryll. 3T were mentored by their uncle Michael and signed to his record label. They released their debut album, Brotherhood , in 1995. The Jacksons were among the first black American performers to gain a following and have been successful in the music industry since they were signed with Motown in 1968 and 3T are popular all over the world. There must be a lot of pressure that comes with the name Jackson and because of all the hits from several members of the family, we expect every song they release to be really good and TJ has definitely lived up to those expectations! Now let me tell yo...

Music Video Review: Lie

Image
Last week, Jakob released another song called Lie which is amazing and the music video is equally amazing. With every song and video he does, he just keeps getting better and his vocals have improved massively. Jakob is growing up, not just in his music but physically too. It looks like he is very tall now! Here I am going to share with you my thoughts on the music video for Lie. This video is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time. It starts with a girl dancing in front of a window through which we can see a view of a city. Not sure if it was filmed here in Sydney or somewhere else but it looks really nice and the girl, Rechelle, is a stunning young woman. I have had the pleasure of meeting her and she is a lovely person and talented dancer. I guess she plays Jakob's love interest or crush in this video. The use of shadows and silhouette makes it different to any other video. Jakob sings so passionately, closing his eyes and just focusing on what he is there to do....

Review: Carnie Vore

Image
Last year children's Author Athena Phillips wrote and published her first book, Herbie's Happy Birthday  which is amazing and now she is back with a second book called Carnie Vore Helps With Chores.  In this book, we are introduced to Herbie's cousin Carnie, an adorable little dinosaur who enjoys helping out around the house. Athena "wrote this book to encourage children to be more of a helper in the world." It definitely does that. I'm going to share my thoughts on it. The cover of the book is absolutely beautiful. It's bright and colourful and I love the purple theme of the room. Purple is my favourite colour so of course I do! The title is written in big font and block letters which makes it easy for children to read. It is a very attractive cover that I think people will be drawn to when they are looking in a library or bookshop. The story follows a day in the life of Carnie. We get to see what she does each day, from waking up, playing,...

Song Review: Drowning

Image
Just over a year after the release of Hopelessly,  Jakob Delgado is back with his second song as a solo artist! The former boy band member started promoting Drowning at the end of last month by posting short lyric videos on Instagram and released the song yesterday. The fans have waited a very long time to hear new music from Jakob and it was worth it. I'm going to share my thoughts on the song. I think Drowning is about a broken relationship. With the words, "Feel like I can sum it up, you've been f***ing with someone..." it sounds like he is talking about someone who cheated on him or did him wrong. It's very easy to assume it's about a girl but really it could be about anyone. Maybe it's about a friend. Whoever the person is doesn't seem to want anything to do with him unless they want something as the lyrics, "you don't call me unless you need a favour," suggest.  Jakob said in an Instagram livestream that he will wri...

Got Me Singing Video Review

Image
Jaafar Jackson, the son of Jermaine Jackson of The Jackson 5 , has just released is debut single. It is called Got Me Singing  and was written by 22-year-old Jaafar and veteran producer Hardy Indiigo. It was released on all music platforms including Apple Music and Spotify on Friday and the music video was uploaded on YouTube a few hours later. Here I am going to write a short review of the video. At the start of the video, we get a birds-eye view of a city and see Jaafar riding on the back of a motorcycle. The location appears on screen - Vidigal, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The clothes Jaafar and everyone is wearing give a Caribbean, summer vibe. The song actually starts a minute into the video and the first sounds accompany views of houses and different parts of the city. I like that because we get to know a little bit of Brazil. The first shot of Jaafar is taken on a rooftop. His outfit goes well with the background. The camera then cuts to a beautiful woman who plays the lo...

Jonas Brothers new music video

Image
American pop band The Jonas Brothers are back with a new song and music video, exciting their fans everywhere! It has been a long time since we heard any music from Kevin, Joe and Nick as a group because, after releasing a single called First Time in 2013, they split. On 28th February, they announced the release of their first single together after six years and released Sucker on 1st March. The first thing you see when the video starts is a car driving up to a large palatial style building with a beautiful green area with fountains and then it cuts to the Jonas Brothers inside singing to two ladies laying on deck chairs surrounded by Corgis. I thought it felt royal and I read that this video was actually at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, UK where Queen Elizabeth 1 grew up. That's very cool! The women featured are actually the partners of the Jonas Brothers - Kevin's wife Danielle, Nick's wife Priyanka and Joe's Fiancé Sophie Turner. They look bea...

Review: Circles by Yours Truly

Image
Hello, Looking for a new song to add to your summer playlist? Well, look no further than Yours Truly's latest single, 'Circles'. The Sydney based pop-punk band have just released it and let me tell you, it's guaranteed to make you want to get up and dance. Photo: @yourstruly_band Instagram The music video is amazing too and here I am going to do a little review of it. It begins with the instruments and microphone being set up and lights turning on so you feel like you are waiting to watch a concert. We then see a close-up of lead vocalist Mikaila as she starts singing and the other members - Lachlan, Teddie and Bradley rocking out on the guitars and drums. They are each standing in front of lights and different coloured backgrounds which I think suit this season. I love that their outfits are colour-coordinated and Mikaila's make-up is perfect, she looks beautiful no matter what! The scenes cuts to full shots of each member individually, then ...

Becoming - Michelle Obama

Image
Hello! Ever since I head that former first lady of the United States Michelle Obama was writing a book, I have been waiting to get my hands on a copy and I did on Christmas day. I started reading Becoming and it was so good, I finished it in five days. Here, I am going to share my thoughts on the book but First, let me tell you what it's about. Becoming is an autobiography in which Michelle Obama tells readers about her life in a deeply honest and heart-warming way. She talks about her childhood and growing up as Michelle Robinson in a small apartment in Chicago with her parents and brother, her education, meeting Barack Obama for the first time and marrying him, juggling her demands at work and as a mother to two daughters and being the US first lady. Now I'll start with the cover. I love how simple it is. Just the title and her name in white capital letters and a beautiful photo of Michelle dressed in white and looking so happy against a light...

Christmas Movies

Image
Hello! There are so many great Christmas movies out and in this post, I am going to tell you about two of those movies I have seen recently. The Princess Switch Vanessa Hudgens stars in this romantic comedy film as Stacy DeNovo, a young baker who owns a pastry shop in Chicago. She meets Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro, who is soon to marry the kingdom's Crown Prince. They look exactly like each other and switch lives for a few days and agree to return to normal in time for Lady Margaret's wedding and Stacy's pastry competition. It is out on Netflix now. Shoelaces for Christmas In this movie. a young girl named Jennifer learns to be compassionate towards others when her father forces her to volunteer at a homeless shelter. She learns a lot through the experience and forms a special bond with the staff and a special guest. This is a truly heart-warming story. You can watch this on YouTube. I highly recommend that you al...

Review: DBL's Just A Fool Video

Image
Hello! Two months ago, I introduced all of you, my readers, to an incredible artist called DBL with a review of his Another Round music video. Now, in this post, I am going to write a short review of his music video for Just A Fool , a song on his EP Island Vibez. In the song, DBL is talking to a girl he likes. He is telling her that he has anything she wants and is trying to get her to love him. The video begins with a silhouette of DBL dancing in a dark tunnel. Throughout the video, the scenes cut from the tunnel, to a black background with bursts of colour and then to  a colourful, rotating background. I like that his face is not just against a plain background but instead it looks like paint is being splashed everywhere. I think it makes it fun. The colourful, rotating background looks like what you would see if you look through a kaleidoscope and it makes the video even more attractive. DBL's dancing reminds me of another artist we all know and love...

Review: Hopelessly by Jakob

Image
Hello! After months of hard work, sneak peaks and teasing, Jakob Delgado finally released his first single and music video as a solo artist, "Hopelessly" . Fans have been eagerly awaiting this track and the long wait was worth it! I'm going to share my thoughts on the song and music video but first, a little background on Jakob. He is a 17-year-old from Sydney who was a member of the band In Stereo. After three years together, they split up to focus on solo careers and for the past few months, Jakob has been working very hard in the studio here and in Los Angeles on his music. When I first heard that the song was called "Hopelessly" , I thought it was going to be a sad song but no, it's a love song. In the Instagram livestream Jakob did late last night, he answered my question "Is Hopelessly a sad song?" Here's what he said: "Hopelessly isn't a sad song. It may seem like hopelessly as a word is something where you don't...
