London England

Image
Here are some things I learnt in London, United Kingdom.  Iconic attractions include Buckingham Palace, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Tafalgar Square, the Shard, Tower of London. London is the capital city of England.  The national Anthem was God Save the queen until Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022.It is now God Save the King.  June-August is tourist season and this is when Buckingham palace is open to the public, while King Charles and the Royal family are away on holidays. People can see the state rooms on the tour of Buckingham Palace. These rooms are the White Drawing room. Music room, Ballroom, throne room, grand staircase.   The Tower of London is a historic castle located along the River Thames. It was build by William the Conqueror in 1078 and used as a royal residence and also a prison from 1100 to 1952. It is home to the crown jewels.  The guards dressed in red tunics and bearskin hats who stand outside royal palaces in...

Royal Christmas Traditions

Image
When it comes to Christmas, the British royal family are just like the rest of us. They get together with the whole family, have meals, exchange gifts and enjoy relaxing and spending time together. In this post, I am sharing a few of the Royal family's Christmas traditions.  1. One week before Christmas, the Queen hosts a luncheon for extended family at Buckingham Palace. 2. The royals serve as patrons of many charities and they continue to support their respective causes throughout the holiday season by throwing Christmas parties for them. In 2018, William and Kate attended celebrations for military personnel deployed in Cyprus and their families in London. 3. Just like many other families, they send out annual Christmas cards to  well-wishers around the world. These cards always feature a portrait of the family. The royals official website says that the Queen and Prince Philip send out around 750 Christmas cards. She likes to get a head start on signing the cards while she i...

In October 2017, I travelled to America and Canada for a holiday. I have been looking through all the photos I took and remembering the fun we had. Movies to watch this festive season

Image
It's almost Christmas! I can't believe it's that time of year again, it feels like this year has gone so fast. Christmas trees and decorations are starting to go up in shopping centres, cities and households and people have started their gift shopping. New movies have arrived in cinemas and Netflix and this is what I will be talking about in this post. I am going to share some of my favourite Christmas movies which I'm sure most of you have seen or at least heard about.  If you haven't, definitely check them out! Home Alone is my favourite, I watch it every Christmas. Macaulay Culkin plays eight-year old Kevin McCallister who is accidently left behind by his family who fly to Paris for their holiday. Initially, Kevin enjoys being home alone but soon has to contend with two burglars.  There are four movies in the Home Alone Franchise but thei first two are the best, in my opinion.  This movie from 2004 is hilarious. Christmas with the Kranks...

Christmas Movies

Image
Hello! There are so many great Christmas movies out and in this post, I am going to tell you about two of those movies I have seen recently. The Princess Switch Vanessa Hudgens stars in this romantic comedy film as Stacy DeNovo, a young baker who owns a pastry shop in Chicago. She meets Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro, who is soon to marry the kingdom's Crown Prince. They look exactly like each other and switch lives for a few days and agree to return to normal in time for Lady Margaret's wedding and Stacy's pastry competition. It is out on Netflix now. Shoelaces for Christmas In this movie. a young girl named Jennifer learns to be compassionate towards others when her father forces her to volunteer at a homeless shelter. She learns a lot through the experience and forms a special bond with the staff and a special guest. This is a truly heart-warming story. You can watch this on YouTube. I highly recommend that you al...

Things I Learnt in America

Image
Hello! Last October my mum and I went on a holiday to America! I was so excited as that had been at the top of my list of places to visit. We went to Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Washington and Ohio. A friend picked us up from Ohio and drove us to Michigan. We stayed there for a night and then went to Toronto, Canada. In this post, I am going to share a few things I learnt in America - Differences between there and Australia, things that surprised me and a little information about the sights. I will start with our first destination, LA. Los Angeles Driving from LAX airport, I thought we would pass by well known buildings but it was mostly grass, like we were in the middle of nowhere, until we got to Hollywood & Highland, where our hotel was. There are so many people dressed up as movie characters walking around and you can take photos with them but you have to pay them. On our first day there, my mum and I were exploring the area near the hot...
