Returning To Work

Hello everyone! A lot of people are returning to school and work in offices this week and in this post, I am sharing some tips on preparing to return to work and settling back into your office or workplace.

1. Talk about your anxiety and fears

It is natural to feel some anxiety about returning to work. If you are feeling anxious or feel nervous about anything, talk to your manager about it. They are there to support their employees and will understand how you may be feeling. They could find ways to make the transition easier for you.

2. Communicate with the team

Communication is very important. Talk to the manager and your colleagues about what rules and safety measures are in place in your workplace and plan how the move back in will happen. Will everyone go back on the same day or one team/section at a time? Will you be in the office from Monday-Friday or could you go in two days to start with?

3. Re-wire your body clock.

In lockdown, you have probably been sleeping in longer each day and waking up 20 minutes before you're due to start work so waking up early and getting ready to commute again may be difficult. When you know the date of your return, start going to bed and waking up earlier a week or a few days before to get used to your old routine again. Set up a few alarms and give yourself a few minutes to lay in bed before you actually get up and start getting ready.

4. Plan how you will get to work

This is important, especially if you have to carry your laptop and office equipment with you. If you're able to manage carrying all that and a handbag with your wallet, lunch and other things you need, great but if not, ask someone to drive you to work, come with you just to help you with all your things or at least rop you off at the bus stop or train station.

5. Make your first day back peaceful and fun

Start the a day with a calming activity such as meditation, yoga, or reading. Set up a playlist of your favorite songs to listen to while you get ready and commute to work.

6. Arrive at work earlier than normal.

Make sure you have enough time to set up your computer, equipment and other things back on your desk and connect to the company network and the WiFi.

7. Revamp your desk or work space.

When you get into your office, you may see a pile of folders, mail and papers sitting on your desk. This may be because you didn't get a chance to clear it before you were forced to work from home or people who were still working there during the lockdown might have used your desk. Whatever the reason is, your desk needs to be clean so sort through the pile and, if your're not sure what to do with them, put it aside and ask someone what to do. Create a space you are happy to work in.

8. Take regular breaks.

You may have gotten used to multi-tasking and eating while you work at home which is fine to do and sometimes you have to o that but you need to make sure you take breaks. If the weather is good, take your lunch outside, go for a short walk, stand up and stretch and look away from the screen regularly to let your eyes rest.

9. Leave the office on time

Studies have shown that people's hours have increased dramatically since working from home. It doesn't have to stay that way when you return to the office and it's okay to leave at your exact end time!

Welcome back Justice Crew!

Photo credit to @Justicecrewofficial Instagram Justice Crew are a dance and music group who won Australia's Got Talent in 2010 and went on to release many amazing songs including number one hits Boom Boom and Que Sera . After their tour in 2019, they took a long break and now they are back!  I have been a huge fan of them since the beginning and have been to a lot of their shows, so when they announced they were performing a show in February, of course I was excited and attended with my friend. There was a huge crowd there to see them, which surprised a few people, including maybe the guys themselves. After six years, they probably felt rusty, but they were actually amazing as always. It was so cool to see them on stage again and here all the hit songs the number ones and  Everybody. It's so crazy how even now, after six year...

Light in the Darkness

We all carry a little darkness. Moments we don’t speak of. Storms We face. Shadows we walk through quietly.   But that doesn’t mean our light is gone.   Even on heavy days, when it feels like someone has punched us in the chest, or everything feels hopeless. We work. We care. We laugh. We create. We shine, like the brightest star in the sky.   No matter what happens today – even if it’s messy, or lonely, or full of tears - The sun will rise in the morning. Like it always does. Like we always do.   Because light doesn’t have to shout. Sometimes it just keeps showing up, quietly. One bright beam at a time.

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...
