Beach Benefits

Spring is upon us and, with the weather getting warmer, people are heading to the beach. It is great to have a day out at the beach, spend time in the sun, get a tan and enjoy the water. There are many health benefits of spending time at the beach, and I am going to share a few of those here.     Fairy Meadow Beach, NSW  The beach is a great place to meditate and think. Sitting on he shoreline and looking at the sea can lure you into a meditative state and having that quiet time allows you to think about things happening in your life and get clarity. It has been proven that staring at the sea has a positive effect on the brain. Listening to the sound of the waves stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system, which triggers the body to secrete hormones that decrease the heart rate and blood pressure. Negative ions in the air help us absorb oxygen more easily so it helps your body relax and you can have a better sleep. When you go and hang out at the beach, you ...

Explore Adelaide: Part Two

Two years ago, I wrote a post called 'Explore Adelaide,' and now I am back with part two, as I have found more amazing places to see in the beautiful state.  Part one: https://vishisviews.blogspot.com/2022/08/explore-adelaide.html The Museum of Discovery, or MOD . as it is known, is a futuristic museum designed for young people between the ages of 15 and 25 which showcases how research shapes our understanding of the world and is inspired by science, art and innovation. It is interactive and you can watch presentations on the screens, do activities and  answer questions.  MOD. is located in the University of South Australia and is free to enter.  I highly recommend all booklovers visit The State Library of South Australia , located in North Terrace. There are three buildings to explore - the award-wining Catherine Spence Wing with an iconic glass foyer, the Mortlock Wing with it's 19th century Victorian style and the 1861 heritage listed Institute building,...

Facts About Simone Biles

Image from Los Angeles Times The eyes of the world have been on Paris this past week since the 2024 Olympic games began in the French capital city last Friday. There are a few sports I like to watch and one of those is the gymnastics. I am in awe of the strong young women wearing beautiful leotards, flipping, tumbling and doing the most powerful and thrilling tricks on the vault, balance beam, bars and floor.  As an Australian, I of course support our home team, but I also enjoy watching the USA team who always do so well and dominate international competitions. This year is no exception, with Simone Biles winning the gold medal in the Women's all-around final for the second time and she is the first woman to win two Olympic all-around titles since Vera Caslavska in 1964 and 1968....

Book Recommendations

Here I am sharing some interesting books I have read. Home to Biloela by Priya Nadesalingam and Rebekah Holt The Nadesalingam family captured the hearts of Australians as they were taken from their home in Biloela and placed into detention in 2018, and fought with the government who made multiple attempts to deport them. With the support of a small group in Biloela and people around the country, they made it back home. In this book, Priya shares her story, from her childhood in Sri Lanka, to making a new life in Australia, her marriage to Nades and birth of their daughters, Kopica and Tharnicaa, and the efforts to prevent the family from being deported.  Charles III, The Inside Story by Robert Hardman  This book is an insightful and intimate look at the first year of King Charles' reign. Author Robert Hardman shares details of the last  few hours of Queen Elizabeth II life, what happened the day she passed away, new information about the state funeral, his first days as t...
