I Love Me

Last week, Demi Lovato released a new single called I Love Me and in this post, I am going to share my thoughts on the song and music video, which came out on the same day.

Demi is one of my favourite artists. She is a very talented singer and actress and I feel that she is a great role model for young girls. She's been through a lot in her life - She started her entertainment career in 2002 and has been acting, singing and appearing on TV ever since, was bullied at school due to her acting, has suffered from depression, an eating disorder and self-harm and took drugs. With all her personal struggles, she has managed to have a successful career. I love that she is so open and honest about what she has been through. Not many people like to discuss those issues, especially in the media, but she does and I'm sure it helps a lot of people who may be in the same situation.

'I Love Me' is a self-love anthem which talks about struggles with self-image. Lyrics such as Can't see what I am, I just see what I'm not, I'm guilty 'bout everything that I eat (every single day) make it sad but when she sings I'm a ten out of ten even when I forget, it's positive and empowering.

In the first scene of the video, three versions of Demi are seen in a house. She is sitting on a bed looking at magazines and then two more appear, one dressed in white and the other. The white represents Demi when she is calm and happy and the black represents the dark times. Demi in white meditates and watches Demi fight the one in black. This fight depicts her fighting her demons and showcases her skills in martial arts. It is a visual representation of what depression, eating disorders and other issues are like. When people have poor mental health and have problems like that, they feel like they are in a battle with themselves.

Next, Demi walks out of the house dressed in a white dress and red jacket. I think she always looks great. As she walks along the street, she passes by people depicting different times in her life. For example, a mom taking her daughter to an acting audition represents Demi going with her mother and older sister to an audition, a woman with short hair dressed in a black bodysuit and sunglasses represents Demi promoting her 2015 album Confident, and a young girl holding a microphone surrounded by three guys represents herself and the Jonas Brothers in the movie Camp Rock. Demi also walks past an ambulance assisting a woman on a stretcher. This represents the overdose she suffered. In this whole scene, she is looking back at everything that has happened to her over the years and remembering what has brought her to where she is today. I think that's what most people do, I'm sure we all have times when we, reminisce, sit and think about what has happened to us in the past and where we are at this point.

This music video takes Demi's feelings and struggles and paints a picture of what it has really been like for her. I tthink it is highly relatable as a lot of people have experienced similar things but no one truly understands unless they see it or have actually been through it.

Demi has shown the world that she has suffered and overcome all her struggles. She is a strong and independent woman who has achieved so much. I can tell she works hard and writes from her heart. She pours out all her feelings into her songs which are amazing.

I Love Me is available now aad the music video is on YouTube.

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
