Hello!
Welcome to my first blog post for 2020!
In this post, I am giving you some ideas for what you can put into an anxiety or stress relief kit, which is a collection of items used to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety. These items can be put into a small pouch, purse, your handbag or backpack to take with you when you go out or in a box at home.
The items listed here engage all five of your senses.
Sight - Photos of your family, friends and pets are good to have in the kit to show you all the people who love and support you and pets that make you happy.. Also, if you are going to a concert or special event and you are feeling anxious, having a photo or keepsake from previous events help remind you that you were fine and had a great time.
Smell - Aromatherapy is helpful for people living with anxiety so include mini perfumes, essential oils, hand sanitizes and creams in your favorite scents.
Sound - Your phone or an iPod with headphones because music is very therapeutic, You could even find an app or YouTube video of soothing sounds.
Taste - It is a good idea to have a little snack in there. You could have almonds, cashews and a granola bar. For an extra treat, put in your favorite chocolate bar or lollies.
Touch - Keep your hands busy to distract yourself with a fidget spinner, Rubik's cube, putty or play-dough.
Other items you could include are:
Rescue Remedy - These can be bought in some supermarkets and chemists and come in the form of pastilles you chew or a spray which you spray onto your tongue. Rescue Remedy, or RR as I like to call them, help calm you down and cope with whatever is happening around you. I think of the pastilles as lollies for anxiety.
Journal or notebook - It'is good to write down all your feelings so have a journal or small notebook in your kit. You can write down whatever you want, even swear, without the fear of judgement or criticism because journals are meant to be private for your eyes only. If you don't like or want to write, you could just draw or scribble.
First-aid - Panadol, band-aids and feminine products, or any item that helps you when you feel sick.
So there are some things which could help relieve anxiety. These are just a few ideas that I personally love but everyone is different and have their own ways of coping and calming down. The idea is to find items that help you cope during overwhelming situations. Put your kit in an area where you can access it easily.
Have a great weekend!
