Viral Acts of Kindness

Hello!

Everyday, the news is full of reports on accidents, shootings, attacks and deaths. It seems like it's all bad news. The world isn't always a friendly, happy place but there are some good people out there who do good deeds because that's just who the are. Sometimes, these people become famous for their acts of kindness.

In this post, I am going to share a few acts of kindness that were found and went viral on the Internet.

1. Service in Hungry Jacks
Jesse Teichelman is a 21-year-old performer from Perth who I have been following on social media for a while now. One night in August, Jesse went into Hungry Jacks to get a drink and while he was waiting for it he noticed an autistic man at the counter trying to order his food. The lady at the counter was having trouble understanding him and getting embarrassed so she went to get the manager for help but they said, "No, I'm on Facebook so go get Amy, she's around somewhere" (OMG!!!) She came out and before the man could finish repeating his order, said they couldn't serve him. Someone in the line said "Just hurry the F**** up!" making the situation worse. Here's where Jesse stepped in. He went up to the counter, shook the mans hand and turned around to the guy in line who had yelled and said, "You sir need some patience and understanding that people struggle sometimes and it isn't their fault, so have some compassion." Jesse then helped the man order his meal by guiding him to speak slowly and clearly to the best of his ability and then Jesse would repeat it back to the server.

2. Aussie Sportsmanship
At the Commonwealth Games this year, three Australian runners showed true sportsmanship during their 10,000m event. All the other athletes left the track as soon as they finished their race but Celia Sullohern, Madeline Hills and Eloise Wellings waited for the last runner, Lineo Chaka from Lesotho, to pass the finish line and cheered for her.

3. Little boy touches hearts
Maurice Adams Jr, an eight-year-old boy from Milledgeville, Georgia saw an elderly woman with a walker struggling to climb up some stairs and rushed over to help her. Maurice gently guided her, keeping one hand on her back and helping to lift her walker as she climbed to the top. The woman was grateful and thanked him with a hug. He then went back down the stairs with a big grin and got into his mother's car. A passer-by, Riley Duncan filmed the act and posted it on a local community group's Facebook page. You can see the video in this article - https://tendaily.com.au/news/good-news/a180531hvs/young-boys-touching-act-of-kindness-has-gone-viral-20180531

4. Halting Racial Abuse
Tracey Tong was on a New York subway train when she heard an older woman racially abusing two other passengers, an African American woman wearing a hijab and a Middle Eastern man. The 23-year-old, who had made a promise to herself to step in if an abusive situation arose, intervened and asks the woman in both English and Spanish to stop berating them. Tracey said she didn't know it was all being filmed until a friend showed her the video. She was widely praised for her intervention. Ellen DeGeneres interviewed Tracey on her show and gave her a cheque for $10,000!

5. Two Homecoming Kings
Max Akin, a football quarterback at Fossil Ridge High School in Texas and his friend K.L. Norwood, the team manager, were both nominees for Homecoming king last year. Max won the crown but passed it to KL, who has Cerebral Palsy. Max didn't want anyone to think he gave the crown to K.L. just because he has Cerebral Palsy. "I think it should've gone to the person who positively uplifts the school and everybody around him and that person is K.L. for sure," he said. Max and K.L. appeared on Ellen and she gave them each $10,000!

6. Cheerleader Honoured
Ashley Adamietz, a high school cheerleader recently diagnosed with Leukemia was honoured by the football team. One of the players, Ryan Caetano, wanted to support for her and the whole team joined in. As they entered the field for a game, they each stopped to lay an orange rose at Ashley's feet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT2zhCaNXaA

These people didn't do these kind gestures for attention but they definitely deserved the recognition. I love reading and seeing stories like these and wish more would be reported on. People like this restore faith in humanity and make the world a better place.

As Ellen DeGeneres always says, "Be kind to one another!"

Vishi xoxo

  1. It is so nice to be able to see humanity working at its best, to aid those in need. Would be great if these were the kind of stories that made headlines in newspapers. Well done Vishi

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
