Review: Hopelessly by Jakob

Hello!

After months of hard work, sneak peaks and teasing, Jakob Delgado finally released his first single and music video as a solo artist, "Hopelessly". Fans have been eagerly awaiting this track and the long wait was worth it!

I'm going to share my thoughts on the song and music video but first, a little background on Jakob. He is a 17-year-old from Sydney who was a member of the band In Stereo. After three years together, they split up to focus on solo careers and for the past few months, Jakob has been working very hard in the studio here and in Los Angeles on his music.

When I first heard that the song was called "Hopelessly", I thought it was going to be a sad song but no, it's a love song. In the Instagram livestream Jakob did late last night, he answered my question "Is Hopelessly a sad song?" Here's what he said: "Hopelessly isn't a sad song. It may seem like hopelessly as a word is something where you don't have much hope at all but in the extent of this song it's kind of like I'm hopelessly falling for somebody and through an experience, it's kind of "Hopeless Love" in some kind of way." He said I would understand when I hear the song and yes I do now, thank you Jakob!

At midnight, I downloaded and listened to it on Apple music and I closed my eyes, feeling it and the first word that came out was "Wow!" I couldn't believe this is the same person I had been listening to and watching since 2015. I was thinking, please get me a man who can sing or even talk to me like this?! Jakob said that when he started to write his own music he wanted create stuff that would be real and that would bring people into his life to see who he is as an individual and what he is going through. Well, you know what? That's exactly what he did. Hopelessly is a far cry from the songs he released as part of In Stereo. It's a much more mature sound, very fitting for the adult Jakob is becoming. He is singing to a girl he is in love with and asking to get together with her.

The music video was also released at midnight on YouTube. It opens with his name, the title of the song and the directors name. I think this gives it a movie feel. I like the location. It looks like an abandoned house with nothing in it except a couch and bathtub. It's the kind of place I would go to when I want to be alone, write and think about things. Jakob is there just singing his heart out, thinking about his girl. Whenever I watch Jakob sing, live or in videos, I look at his face and can see how passionate he is about music and life. The camera zooms into his face several times throughout the video, I absolutely love those smouldering looks. Scenes cut between him sitting in a bathtub, against a couch and walking around the room. We also see him sitting in front of a mirror with lights, the type you find in dressing rooms. I thought a girl would appear in the video but no, there's no girl or anyone else in it, just Jakob which I love. The focus is just on him, the way it should be. The only thing I don't understand about this video is that tub but I do love the whole concept of this video.

Jakob, the producers and everyone who was involved in making the track and video have done a wonderful job. 'Hopelessly' is a brilliant piece of work. Welcome back Jakob! Congratulations on your first release as a solo artist and I'm now looking forward to more music!

You can download "Hopelessly" on Spotify, iTunes and other streaming services and watch the video on Jakob's YouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRMnAglVHV4

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
