Hello!
We are are always on our phones, surfing the internet and scrolling through social media, and often we see something that catches our eye, sparks our interest and gets us thinking.
I'm going to share with you one of these posts which I saw a few days ago while scrolling through Instagram.
@bopo.love:
Today I want to talk about: FaceTune. You ever see someone’s picture on Instagram with flawless skin and think “why can’t I have skin like that?” Nobody has skin like that.
In the last three or so months, my skin has gone to absolute shit! I’m in the process of finding out if it’s an allergy thing, a hormonal thing, or just my skin losing its crap, but it’s been really, really getting me down! And every time I see an Instagram model or MUA’s face, I can’t help but feel really self conscious and upset that my skin just isn’t doing what it’s supposed to. But you wanna know something? No one’s skin is “perfect”!
I downloaded FaceTune and was able to edit this picture in 2 minutes. Smoothed out my pores, smoothed out the lumps, toned down the oily nose...in two minutes. In two minutes, my “imperfections” disappeared!
Note: She posted a photo of herself to show how FaceTune works but I'm not going to post it here because she may not like that..

Moral of this post: don’t believe everything you see on Instagram! Society and the media have told us from day dot that if we have imperfections, we’re “ugly” and need to “fix them”. But I guarantee you, those “perfect” models you see on social media, in the magazines etc - they are just like you and me. They have lumps and bumps and big pores and just about everything else in between. Loving ourselves when we’ve been told our whole lives that we shouldn’t because of x, y, z is hard. And it takes a lot of self-awareness and determination to actively reject society and the media’s notion of “perfect beauty”. But we can do it by trying our hardest not to buy into the hype, and by trying to love ourselves even when we don’t fit their definition.
When I read this caption, I thought, "Yes, you tell them girl!" What she said is true. Nobody is perfect, even the celebrities you see on Television and in magazines. I admit, a lot of the the selfies I've posted on my social media pages were edited using apps - I used filters to make my skin appear smooth and flawless but it is nothing like that. From now on, I am not going to edit any photos of myself.
We all have things we don't like about ourselves but everyone is beautiful in their own way and I want them to realize that. Embrace your imperfections and remember, you are lovely just the way you are.
Thank you @bopo.love for allowing me to repost your caption. Everyone who has Instagram should check out her account.
Have a great weekend!
