Things to do in Quarantine

We have all been forced to stay home and isolate because of the Corona-virus and, when you're not working and doing school online, you might be feeling bored and not sure what to do with yourself so in this post, I am sharing some ideas to keep you occupied during this crazy time.

  • Watch TV or Netflix - Binge watch your favourite TV show and have movie marathons. There may be re-runs of old shows you loved or you may find a new show or documentary that interests you.
  • Clean and declutter your house and room - You do this anyway but now you have more time to deep clean and get rid of unwanted things. If you're going to be stuck in there for months, it's good to have a neat and tidy space.
  • Organize your work space - Clean up the desk your using for work and organize it in a way you can easily access everything you need such as your computer, stationery, books and papers.
  • Shop - Browse the websites of your favourite stores and save anything you would like to purchase for when we're allowed to go out again. Looking at pieces of clothing online and putting nice outfits together can be fun and add things to your birthday and Christmas wishlists.
  • Turn over your wardrobe according to the season - By the time things go back to normal, the new season might be upon us. If it's currently summer where you are, put those clothes away and get out your winter clothes.
  • Decorate your room - Put posters, photos or nice pictures up on your walls, add flowers if you have them. Artificial flowers are just as beautiful as real ones and add any cute decor pieces you have lying around.
  • Scrapbook or organize photos - Have you ever thought of putting together a scrapbook to hold your memories or wanted to organize loose photos? Now's the time. Put your photos into an album, have one for holidays, another for birthday celebrations etc. Or you can put the photos into s scrapbook, write about your experiences and decorate the pages, making it personal for you and nice to look at.
  • Exercise - You can still exercise in quarantine. This is very important. If you have a gym in your house, that's great, or use equipment any equipment you have like dumbbells, balls and bands. It's okay if you don't have any equipment, still stretch, do yoga, barre and zumba and you are allowed to go for a walk around your neighborhood as long as you stay away from other people. You need fresh air. You can follow work-out videos on YouTube and many gyms, yoga studios and dance schools are doing sessions online.
  • Read books - Reading is very relaxing. Take time out from your work schedules and allow yourself to be transported another world through stories and characters and you learn a lot from self-help books. If you're not into books, read magazines and newspapers, or listen to podcasts and eBooks
  • Cook - Cook meals for yourself and your family, try new recipes and bake sweet treats.
  • Have a picnic in the backyard - When the weather is nice, take some sandwiches, snacks and drinks you like to your backyard, sit on a blanket and enjoy being outdoors with your family or whoever you live with.
  • Do an online course - Use this time to study something, improve on existing skills and learn something new. You could get another qualification from Tafe, open colleges and other places which offer accredited courses or there are websites where you can do free courses and watch tutorials on many different subjects. I highly recommend Skill Share, it offers thousands of short courses and tutorials on subjects like business, social media, careers, writing and art. Courses on Skill Share are not accredited but still very useful.
  • Learn new things - Try out something new. Practice make-up, try doing the splits, a dance, learn a new language or drawing.
  • Art and craft - Draw, paint, try origami, paper craft or DIY projects. You could turn old boxes, wrapping paper or even clothes you have lying around into something completely new ad have something beautiful to display in your home or wear.
  • Plan birthday messages - Plan and write messages for family, friends and loved ones who have birthdays and other special occasions coming up so it's ready to send or post on the day.
  • Meditate - or sit quietly and just breathe. We all need to do this.
  • Talk to people - Communication and human interaction doesn't stop. Talk to your family members, partners, roommates or whoever lives with you. Text and video call your friends and family who live interstate or overseas.
  • Play games - Board games are fun but if you don't have anyone to play with or don't all want to sit too close together to play, you can download games from the app store on your phone or play on your computer.
  • Photography - Improve your photography skills by taking random photos around your house and garden using the various features of your camera and phone. Practice on the people you're living with if they're willing to pose for you.
  • Make fun videos - Document your time in quarantine/isolation, record a video journal, vlog, make a dance or music video, or just make funny faces in front of the camera. The videos you make can be just for you or you can post it on Facebook or Instagram to entertain your followers.
  • Practice self-care - This is important whether we're in quarantine or not. No matter what, you need to take care of yourself so do things you enjoy and make yourself look and feel good. Light candles, have a nice bath or shower, put more time into your daily skin and hair care routine.
  • Plan your next holiday - Nobody can travel right now but you can still plan your next holiday, just don't book anything. Make a list of countries you would like to visit, tourist attractions and places of interest. Write down a plan for the trip, like when you would like to go, how long for and how you will get there.
  • Unplug and limit screen-time - Temporarily deactivate or log out of your social media for a while. All the news popping up on our Facebook and Instagram feeds is about the Corona-virus which makes some people anxious so it's good to take a break, whether it be for a few hours, a few days or weeks. There are plenty of other things you can do like some of the things I've mentioned. Colouring, drawing and doing crosswords or word searches are relaxing activities.
  • Do a puzzle - This will keep you busy for some time and when you finish, there may be a away you can frame it and hang it up.
  • Organize and clean your Email inboxes - Delete old emails, unsubscribe from mailing lists you're no longer interested and clear out your junk email.
  • Journal - Write down your thoughts and feelings in a journal. If you don't have anyone to talk to or not comfortable talking about your feelings, get them all out in a journal. Nobody will read it, remember journals are private and for your eyes only so don't to worry about being judged and criticized. You can write down anything, even swear words and it doesn't have to be grammatically correct. Your feelings are valid and it's good to get them all out so you can relax, free your mind and sleep easier.
  • Go live on Instagram or Facebook - If you feel comfortable doing so, you can interact with your friends, family and followers while you're going about your day.
  • Sleep - It is always important to get a good night's sleep and working from home, you may even get to squeeze in a nap in the afternoon. Make sure you are well-rested.
These are some ideas for how you can keep busy during quarantine/isolation. Work hard, have fun and take it easy!

I hope you all are safe, healthy and happy!

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
