Interview: Stereonators

Hello!

On 27th December, Ethan Karpathy announced he was leaving In Stereo after almost three years, leaving fans and shocked and devastated. Chris Lanzon and Jakob Delgado are continuing as a duo and their posts on Instagram have caused excitement in the fandom. As we wait for news, I spoke to five of In Stereo's fans about their experience with the boys, the fandom, their thoughts on Ethan leaving and asked them to reflect on the past two years of In Stereo.

When did you become a fan of In Stereo?
Kirrilee (Melbourne): Around the end of 2015.
Hayley (Sydney): I watched Ethan and Chris on The Voice Kids but never really watched it a lot. Then my friend.introduced me to them and their music early in 2016.
Ashleigh (Gold Coast): I liked the boys when they were on the X Factor but I started to love them in January 2017.
Anonymous (Sydney): I became a fan of Ethan and Chris ever since The Voice Kids and then became a fan of In Stereo since the X Factor.
Kadence (Texas, USA): I became a fan of In Stereo in early 2016.

Have you seen In Stereo perform live?
Kirrilee: Yes
Hayley:Yes
Ashleigh: Yes, I saw the boys perform in January and September.
Anonymous: I have only seen Ethan and Chris at The Voice Kids tour, but haven't seen them all together as a band.
*Kadence is an international fan.

Have you met In Stereo? If yes, what happened and what was it like?
Kirrilee: Yeah I have. It was really nice. I had a high pitched voice because obviously I was excited then Ethan mimicked it. I cried to Jakob and he hugged me in total of 5 times and Chris just promoted his merchandise.
Hayley: Yes I met them for the first time in September last year. It was really awesome because before the show started Jakob and Chris were heading to the bathroom so were my friend and I. I waited for my friend to come out but Chris and Jako came out first and we asked if they could wait for my friend to get out so they waited and we all got a photo. Then they had to leave but told us there was going to be a meet and greet after the show before going backstage. It was really cool, they are such amazing and kind people.
Ashleigh: I met them in September at the Brisbane concert. They all gave me a hug, then signed my EP and then we got a photo. They were all very kind and Ethan and Chris even complimented my hair. It was a great experience.
Anonymous: I've never met them before.

What are they like on stage?
Kirrilee: Full on hyper!
Hayley: They are very energetic on stage and interact with the crowd a lot which is good!
Ashleigh: They are full of energy and interact with the crowd by holding peoples hands, telling us stories and talking to us.
Anonymous: From videos, they seem very energetic and cool.

Kadence, What's it like being an international fan?
Kadence: Being an international fan is kind of hard because you rarely have anyone from the fandom to talk to because, in my case, when I'm awake, everyone's asleep and vice versa.

Which is your favourite song?
Kirrilee: Like You
Hayley: Well I'm not really sure, I love all their songs.
Ashleigh: I honestly love them all but some of my favourites are Good Enough, Not Around, Dear Diary and Like You.
Anonymous: Honest.
Kadence: My favourite song of theirs would either be She's Rock N Roll or Never Felt This Good.

Who is your favourite member and why?
Kirrilee: It's always been Ethan because he is so lovely and his memes are on point. Now it's Chris because he's so adorable but I'm still going to say I'm in Ethan's lane.
Hayley: I equally love them but I would have to go with Jakob because he is so sweet, kind and a really down to earth person.
Ashleigh: Ethan is my favourite member because he is such a good singer, funny and is extremely kind.
Anonymous: I don't really have a favourite but if I have to choose it would be Chris because he seems really nice and manly.
Kadence: At the moment, I would say my favourite member is Jakob because he is so energetic and enthusiastic in everything he does.

What's it like being in the Stereonator fandom?
Kirrilee: It's so loving and friendly and not to mention accepting.
Hayley: It's so cool because I have made so many friends and everyone is supportive of each other. We are like a big family.
Ashleigh: It's great, I've made so many new friends and most people in the fandom are really nice.
Anonymous: It's really good being in the Stereonator fandom and many people have made new friends from it.

What do you like most about the fandom?
Kirrilee: The people
Hayley: I love the people in the fandom because they are really supportive.
Ashleigh: I like how supportive everyone is when you are going through a bad time or just need someone to talk to.
Anonymous: I like that everyone supports the boys with their music.
Kadence: What I like most about the fandom is that everyone is so friendly and open.

Is there anything you dislike about the fandom? If yes, what is it?
Kirrilee: The constant drama
Hayley: The only thing I dislike is that sometimes people can be a bit rude towards others.
Ashleigh: I dislike the drama in the fandom.
Anonymous: The arguing, disagreements and hate because the boys don't deserve it.
Kadence: What I don't like the fandom is that when there is drama, everyone seems to be freak out about it and make assumptions without knowing the whole story, making it worse than it already is.

What's your favourite memory of In Stereo from the past two years?
Kirrilee: Chris and Jakob's livestream.
Hayley: Oh my gosh I don't know! So many things have happened to the boys and they have matured so much. I have to say I absolutely loved the Summer Party in January last year. It was my first In Stereo concert and it was incredible.
Ashleigh: My favourite memory was definitely getting to meet them.
Anonymous: Probably the waxing video because that was funny.
Kadence: I don't have any face to face memories with In Stereo, but I reckon my favourite memory would be getting a video of Ethan saying hi.

In December, Ethan announced he is leaving In Stereo. How did you react to the news?
Kirrilee: I deadset didn't leave my room and I cried as I was in his lane and he has always been my favourite.
Hayley: I was devastated because I have supported him for a while now and it breaks my heart.
Ashleigh: When I first heard the news, I started crying,
Anonymous: I was upset and disappointed that the band won't ever be the same, but at the same time I respect his decision.I respect his decision 100%.
Kadence: At first I was heartbroken knowing that In Stereo will not be the same but now I'm actually very happy for him. He is choosing his own path and not letting music be the only thing that fefines who he is.

If you could say anything to Ethan right now, what would it be?
Kirrilee: Put yourself first sometimes.
Hayley: Ethan, I'm so proud of you. The day I first heard of you, my life completely changed. You make me so happy and never fail to make me laugh or smile. You should be super proud of yourself because you have managed to achieve so much while handling your life and school. I will miss seeing your smiling face. I wish you all the best Ethan, you deserve the world. Love you loads.
Ashleigh:I would tell him how much he has helped me, stay strong and the fandom and I are always there for him. I would let him know how much I love him and that I support his decision even though i miss him so much.
Anonymous:Stay strong and never give up on your future ambitions.
Kadence: I would say that he made the right choice, though I don't know everything about what's going on. If he's happy then I'm happy and I can't wait to see what he accomplishes in the near future.

How do you feel about Chris and Jakob being a duo?
Kirrilee: The music won't be the same but it will be good.
Hayley: I feel so excited because they will be a good duo and the new music will be awesome!
Ashleigh: I'm glad they're still together and, although it's going to be very different without Ethan, I'm excited for what they have coming for us.
Anonymous:I think they will produce some good music together, even though they're not really "In Stereo" without Ethan.
Kadence: I feel like they will be a great duo and will achieve great things in 2018 and further on.

If you could say anything to Chris and Jakob right now, what would it be?
Kirrilee: Don't stop making music, even if there's hate.
Hayley: I want to say that they have changed my life. They have made me so happy and I am super proud of them. I love them with all of my heart and I can't wait for what's in store. The boys deserve the world. Love you guys heaps.
Ashleigh: I would tell them how much I love them, to never give up and not to worry about the hate.
Anonymous: Keep going strong boys, I will always support you and what you do.
Kadence: If I could say anything to them right now, I would ask them, "When will the Day In Day Out EP be available internationally?!"

Thank you girls, for being a part of this interview!
We are excited to see what the future holds for Instereo!

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
