Interview - In Stereo

Hello!

Today I had the opportunity to interview Jakob and Chris from In Stereo! I had a chat to them about a few things including their experience on the X Factor their latest EP and music video, how they deal with haters and juggle school and music and what they love about their fans. I also asked them a couple of questions from fans.

Here's the full interview.

Hi Jakob and Chris! You were on the X Factor in 2015. How was your experience on the show?

Chris: The experience was great. We were very grateful to be a part of it and the exposure and the audience gave us the opportunity to perform to and grow with.

Do you keep in touch with your mentor Guy Sebastian or any of the other contestants?
Jakob: Yeah we've kept in touch with Guy a little bit. We wrote a song with him and got to hang out with him a little bit after the show and we're really good friends with a lot of the other contestants we were on the show with as well and we see them around which is really good.

Did you write all the songs on the 'Day In Day Out' EP yourselves?
Chris: Yeah We had a bit of help with writing on the most recent EP. We like to work with other producers and songwriters to get their input and work creatively but we love being a part of the writing process and we're very glad that we got the opportunity to write on every song on the latest project.

Where do you get the inspiration for your songs? Are they based on your personal experiences?
Jakob: I guess it's just life experiences but it's also from our favourite artists. We take some stuff off that and we can go and write some sort of....

Chris: Actually what we do is... it's not really a kind of structure. It's kind of just like, we just do it, you know?

You just released the video for 'Let Me Show You' which is amazing. How long did it take to film and how did you come up with the ideas for it?
Chris: Thank you. Yeah we filmed it in a day at the last drive in cinema that's left in Sydney. That's in Blacktown. The concept of the video was to do it in a fun diner or a cool place like we filmed it at. The idea was just that we would be having a fun time in a cool retro place like that. The idea of the mannequins was to go with the lyrics of Let Me Show You and it's just a really fun vibe and it was a really good day and really fun video to film.

What have you found to be the hardest thing about being in the music industry?
Chris: We haven't found anything too hard. We really just enjoy every experience and being a part of it. We're really glad for the opportunity to be in it. I guess it's just a matter of making good music and writing good songs and trying to reach as many people as we can with our music is what we're working towards.

Have you had any difficulties juggling your school and music commitments?
Jakob: Oh no, not at all. We're kind of just going through the motions like everyone else is.

Chris: Yeah

Jakob: When we have the time, we've got the time you know, but we always put it first so that's great, that passion. We're really excited to move on to bigger things when everything's all freed up from school.

How do you deal with hate and bullying?
Chris: We try to just not really look at hate too much. We know it's always going to be there but there's so much positivity around that we just try to block it out and not really think about it. We think it's important to believe in whatever it is that you do and not worry about what other people think. It's always good to take on constructive criticism so if anyone ever gives us hate we just take it on and try not to be offended by it or anything.

Jakob: It's alright. Everyone has their own critics. That's fine.

How would you describe your fans and what do you love about them?
Chris: We love them so much. We describe them as extremely supportive and caring. They're really amazing. They come to every show and they're always there to have our backs and follow our journey. We're very grateful to have them.

Jakob: Yeah

You get a lot of gifts at shows. What do you do with them all? Do you actually keep them?
Jakob: We spread them out equally.

Chris: Yeah we make sure we keep them. We go through all the letters and all the gifts. We hate leaving them behind or throwing them away so we never do that. We always make sure we take everything.

Jakob: We're very grateful for all the gifts we get.

You guys are very famous now. Are you able to go anywhere without people coming up to you for photos?
Jakob: It hasn't been too much. We still go out and stuff and sometimes people come up to us and ask for photos and things like that. We love that. We have no issue with it. They're buying our music and being a fan so we don't have a single problem with it.

What do you like to do in your free time?
Chris: In our free time we just make music honestly. Even if we're not in the studio writing songs we'll be at home thinking about music and playing it. It's just what we do all the time or any chance we get.

Of all the shows you've done so far, which as been your favourite?
Chris: Oh it's so hard to choose. I think a favourite of mine would be the Surfers Paradise gig we did a couple of years ago. We played right on Surfers Paradise beach which was awesome but it's really hard to pick just one favourite because they're all so amazing and different and unique.

Jakob: Yeah I have to agree on that as well.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a singer?
Chris: Just to believe in what you do and what you're singing about and just do it as best you can and keep at it. Don't give up is the main thing because it's always going to have it's highs and lows and there will be tough times but it's always worthwhile if you push on and keep going with it.

I have a couple of questions from your fans.
Jakob: Yeah of course.

Charli @ethanspuns asks what inspired you to start music?
Jakob: You'll always find your love and passion for something. For some people it's through family, for some people it's just picking up a guitar and playing a song and thinking wow I really love this. It's just done like that, you know? Your heart's just there and you've got nothing else to do but let it take you.

Lily @mylovejakob asks what are your favourite songs at the moment?
Jakob: I like so many. I wouldn't be able to pick a favourite song.

Chris: Maybe LANY.

What's your favourite childhood TV show or movie? That's from Hayley @instereo_babe_.
Jakob: Stranger Things.

Chris: Childhood TV show or move though. That's like from when you were a kid.

Jakob: Oh I like SpongeBob.

Chris: I like SpongeBob.

Grace Thornhill asks which song of yours makes you feel the most emotional when performing live?
Chris: Probably 'Dear Diary' is the most emotional song.

When's your next concert? Montana @in_stereo16 asked that.
Chris: We don't know yet. Hopefully next year we'll be playing more shows but we're not sure when the next one will be yet. At the moment we're working on more music and stuff before we do more shows.

Sharlotte @lanzonator_ asks could you do more shows in Newcastle and Maitland?
Jakob; Yeah we'll try and figure it out. We'd love to come to Newcastle. That would be awesome.

Thank you for talking to me guys. We can't wait to see what's next for you.

Chris: Thank you.

Jakob: Thanks so much for having us.

Virtual Stop #1: Lymington - A Seaside Gem Discovered by Chance

Welcome to my virtual travel series, where I explore beautiful corners of the world without leaving my bed. Inspired by TikTok livestreamers and walking tour videos, these posts capture what I see, feel and learn as I journey through new places from afar.  I wasn't planning to visit Lymington - not virtually, not in any way. I had never heard of it before watching my favorite singing buskers livestream from the quaint little town in the UK and now I'm captivated. The charm of Lymington unfolded before my eyes: Cobbled pathways, rows of boats bobbing gently at the marina and friendly locals to stop and enjoy the music. I experienced it from my bed.  There is something so welcoming about the town, The people passing by weren't just polite - they were supportive. Some clapped, others left kind words or a few coins, and a few even stayed for songs. There are three ladies who go often to support the guys. They have all been following them on TikTok for a while and met each other...

The Prove It Game

The public opinions on Meghan Markle, or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are divided. Some love her and most seem to hate her. I admire her in some ways. I just watched an interview she did with podcast host Jamie Kern Lima and something she said resonated with me.  Image from Jamie Kern Lima YouTube.  Here it is: "We spend so much of our lives trying to prove something. You have to prove that you're enough, you have to prove that you're pretty enough, you have to prove that you're smart enough, you have to prove that you're a good wife or a good friend, and I am just so done with the prove it game. When you get to the place where you feel like I don't have to prove anything to you anymore. I don't have to prove that I'm a good person, I don't have to prove that I'm a good wife or mum or friend, I don't have to prove that I work hard. It can be really freeing when you stop playing the prove it game." - Meghan Markle. I completely agree with...

Social Media Ban

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said that the Australian Government will enact laws to ban children under 16 years of age from social media and here I am sharing my thoughts on this.  Image from The Chapel Hairdressers - Horsham Facebook page  There are many benefits of social media. We can share photos and videos with our families and friends to keep them updated on our lives, instantly communicate with them, have a record of special memories, businesses can promote their products and services, connect with people professionally and do so much more. So many people are working on social media full time as influencers, working with brands and creating content online  and some have even married people they met online.  Social media can also be used as a weapon.   Preteens and teenagers go through puberty, stress about getting good grades at school, do their best to live up to their parents expectations, have many things they are worried about and just wan...
