Hey guess what?
Celebrities are humans too. You may be thinking, "hey of course, we know they are" but it seems like some people need to be told. I'm going to show you a few examples of celebrities being treated badly and share my opinions on them.
A couple of weeks ago when Justin Bieber was here in Australia for his tour, there were times where he was not treated very well. For example, that much reported sour encounter with a fan in Melbourne. The 20-year old fan had been following him around and when she saw him step out of a car near Crown casino, she rushed over and told him she was going to take a selfie with him. He wasn't in a good mood and did not want to take photos. He said "You're invading my privacy, I don't want a photo" but she told him she was going to take the photo anyway and started snapping away. He said "Look at you, you make me sick."

My opinion on this is that the girl was wrong. A lot of people were saying that Justin was so rude, why wold he say that to fans who are supporting him? The girls mother said she was "disgusted" with him saying that her daughter had been dying to meet him and cried after he humiliated her Well, she was being very disrespectful. Justin clearly did not want to take a photo but she did it anyway. Maybe he could have handled the situation better and been kinder but she had an angry response coming, if not from Justin himself, then maybe one of his security guards.
Another example is at the end of his time in Australia. Look at this photo.

Those girls are just standing there watching him eat. Don't they have anything better to do with their time? Justin and his friends at the table look miserable. When I look at this photo, I think of when we go to the zoo and watch the animals in their enclosures. The poor guy is being treated like an animal and what I don't understand is why that policeman is standing there like that. He should have told those girls to move along and let Justin, his friends and anyone else who may have been in that restaurant have their meals in peace.
I'm not a big fan of Justin Bieber, I don't agree with some things he says and does but this photo honestly broke my heart. A while ago in an Instagram post he announced that he was cancelling meet and greets saying that he felt pressure and people don't really talk to him anymore, they just want photos. I feel like he's happy that he has a successful career in music and gets to perform on stage but he also wants to be a normal guy but people like the selfie-seeking fan at Crown and the girls in the photo can't respect that, it's no wonder he gets angry. They cause other fans who are more respectful to miss out on opportunities to meet him.
Australian television personality went through a lot of pain because of complete strangers on social media. She was the target of an online campaign of harassment and in 2012, was rushed to hospital after attempting suicide. Her battle with Twitter trolls made headlines regularly and she appeared on Seven News to confront some of the people who had been cyber-bullying her. Watch the report below.
I found this very interesting. When Charlotte confronted the first person he did not seem to care at all. He was saying, "They're just words that I say" and "Twitter isn't real life" and he sends abusive messages to other celebrities too. He said that he doesn't mean what he says and the second person said, "Being in the public eye, you are going to get abuse." It's like he's telling her, you have to just sit back in take it. What these people don't realise is that, even though you may not mean what you say, the people receiving your abuse take it to heart. All the abuse really affected Charlotte. Finally she couldn't take it anymore and committed suicide in February 2014.
Words can really hurt a person, remember that!
Even young child stars and teenage celebrities get rude and hateful comments. Social media star Jacob Sartorius is popular amongst mostly preteen girls but also receives a lot of hateful messages. Most of the hate aimed towards him is about his appearance, his baby face and thin stature, which I think is a very silly and terrible reason to hate on him or anyone else. People have also made fun of his name, calling him "Jacob Saggytits" that is so rude, not just to Jacob but also his family. Jacob is only 13 years old and doing everything he can to achieve his dreams. No one deserves to be abused in any way, especially a child. I really think that the people hating on Jacob are jealous of his success and that he became famous in a way that did not require much talent at all, by making videos of himself lip synching on the apps Vine and music.aly.
Similarly In Stereo, Australia's biggest boyband in Australia right now, have received rude comments too, about themselves and their friends. Sixteen-year-old Ethan learnt that fangirls and girlfriends don't mix. After making his relationship public, fans started commenting saying rude things about his girlfriend, who is actually so beautiful, and numerous hate pages were made about her. It was a very tough situation and he was forced to delete any photos he had posted with her off his Instagram account and turn off the comments on some posts. All three boys have been through situations like this. Jakob was at a concert, standing very close to a girl in the mosh pit and people said that he was hugging her and she must be his girlfriend. He has tweeted a few times that he does not have a girlfriend and when he does, he will let everyone know. There was a rumour that Chris was rude to a fan, I don't really know what happened there but I do know that it was not true. I have met these boys and I can tell you that they are actually so sweet and caring.
Think of what you were doing when you were a teenager. You went to school, did homework, studied for exams, hung out with your friends, spent time with your family, did whatever you had to do. These guys and other young celebrities are doing all that and also rehearsing, recording music in the studio, making appearances on TV, photoshoots, that's a lot of pressure for teenagers. They shouldn't have to deal with abuse and hateful messages too. Do they even have time to relax?
The people you watch on television, see performing up on stage and in magazines are really just like the rest of us. They go to school, university and work, hang out with friends, have family time, go shopping and enjoy fun outings. They have the same concerns and problems as us. Just because they are famous, that does not mean they are superhuman or live in their own world where everything is easy. They have to work hard and earn money to support themselves and their families too. They look at the internet, watch the news, read newspapers and are on social media like we are. Next time you see a famous person and take your phone out, look around you and at the person and decide whether it's a good time to ask for a photo. Next time, you send a negative message to your favourite musician, actor, YouTuber, think about how you would feel if you were receiving it.
